While many construction sites still rely on polluting diesel generators, Hivolt is developing a modular, mobile battery system that helps construction companies transition to a clean, emission-free future. With support from the Groeiversneller Demonstration Energy program, the company, founded from ZEConsult, has taken major steps toward certification, testing, and market introduction.
A modular and mobile battery system
Hivolt focuses on mobile energy systems, particularly for the construction sector. Electric equipment is essential to making construction sites climate-neutral.
The company’s solution is an all-in-one modular battery system that is easy to use and capable of powering a small construction site for an entire day. Even large equipment, such as a tower crane, can be operated with the system. When additional power or capacity is needed, extra units can simply be added.
Hivolt also developed its own software with the user in mind, making the system easy to operate—even without specialized training. Besides construction sites, rental companies and event organizers are also exploring applications for the system.
Accelerating development with Groeiversneller
The Groeiversneller subsidy enabled Hivolt to work with certification and standards experts. This allowed the company to make key design adjustments early and ensure compliance with PGS37.1 and CE-related standards.
Testing was also carried out at ElaadNL, where the system was successfully tested with various charging systems and electric construction vehicles. The tests revealed some improvement points, which helped refine the product further.
Collaboration within the community
Cooperation with Oost NL and Connectr played an important role. Through the Connectr community and the Shared Office, Hivolt gained access to expertise, advice on subsidies, and valuable networking opportunities, helping the company progress more quickly.
Ready for the market
Hivolt is currently finalizing the system. Market introduction was planned for later in the year, after ensuring the product is fully ready for practical use and testing by construction companies.
Advice for other companies
Hivolt recommends that companies engaged in development projects consider applying for the Groeiversneller. The program can speed up testing and certification and provide external validation of a product.
The company also stresses the importance of:
- having a clear development plan and cost overview,
- working with a contact person who can help open doors, and
- actively engaging in the right innovation community, where partners may identify opportunities you might otherwise miss.
